For children with ADHD, the world can sometimes feel very big. With so many impulses, emotions, and chaos, it can quickly throw them off balance. Mindfulness is therefore a great opportunity to support children. Below, we'd like to tell you more about the ADHD brain and how Meddy can help.
The importance of mindfulness
A powerful tool that helps children understand their emotions is mindfulness. It teaches children to regulate their emotions, improve their focus, and build resilience. This is especially essential for children with ADHD, as it gives them tools to tackle the many challenges of daily life.
Do you recognize this in your child?
- Difficulty maintaining focus and attention
- Impulsiveness
- Emotional outbursts
- Difficulty with social interactions
- Sensitive to stress
- Restless thoughts and body
If you recognize these characteristics, mindfulness with Meddy can be a useful tool. This way, your child will learn:
- Becoming aware of thoughts and emotions
- Better manage responses to impulses
- Creating moments of peace and focus
- More self-confidence and resilience
The brain with ADHD
Children benefit greatly from understanding how their brains work. Below, we briefly explain complex brain functions in a fun way!
- Prefrontal cortex: This is the part of the brain that helps with planning, decision-making, and staying focused. In children with ADHD, this part can sometimes become distracted or drowsy. With mindfulness, children can strengthen this part, making it easier to solve problems.
- Amygdala: This is your own alarm bell. It's very good at detecting danger, but sometimes this alarm bell escalates into emotions like anger or stress, which can lead to impulsive behavior. With mindfulness, children can practice calming this part, allowing the prefrontal cortex to take over again.
- Hippocampus: This part of the brain helps us remember things. But when the upper two areas are tired, the hippocampus struggles to store memories or retrieve information. Mindfulness gives this part the support it needs to function properly.
Meddy the meditation bear & mindfulness
Besides helping children understand their brains, meditation can help them find peace and focus.
-
Breathing exercises with Meddy : Meddy teaches children to breathe calmly and deeply. With Meddy's guided meditations, children learn to breathe as if they were smelling a flower (inhaling) and blowing out a candle (exhaling).
-
Quiet corner with Meddy : Meddy is also perfect for children to create an imaginary space in their minds. A brown friend with whom they feel safe.
-
Focus training with Meddy : Meddy helps children focus their attention, for example by listening to the meditation music or gently feeling their own heartbeat.
- Meddy's Happiness Cards: In addition to the meditation bear, we've also developed a happiness card set. This set contains 40 cards divided into different categories: affirmations, collaboration, humor, mindfulness, and gratitude. Draw a card together, read the question, and answer it together.
Let's make mindfulness and meditation accessible to all children. Together we can bring peace, joy, and understanding, one breath and one bear at a time! Listen to a preview of Meddy the Meditation Bear here !
